Can we talk about these three soldiers? Because that is what they are; they’re soldiers in a war that’s been building up inside of them for half their lives. And they’re the kind of warriors that don’t know how to fight without being afraid - this war, this year of their lives spent desperately holding on to each other, will never leave them. Even when it ends there’s still a war in their minds, and it manifests itself in the strangest ways; Hermione can’t get to sleep for months unless she has her bag next to her, and even then she wakes up in the middle of the night and puts up defensive charms around the house. She never wears perfume anymore. Ron throws out his radio because the static makes him feel nauseous - he knows Hermione can’t sleep so he lends her the Put-Outer so she can read quietly beside him. And Harry… Harry chooses a house near the woods. He wanders out there sometimes because it’s where he feels closest to them, his family - he doesn’t think of the stone but of their faces, ghosts against the trees. They burnt the tent in the backyard because it felt like dead weight, the three of them, and they held hands after for the longest time… There’s still a war inside their heads.
